Special Interest Groups

Special Interest Groups help members connect on a more personal level and tend to be rewarding and fulfilling. Form a group comprised of members sharing a common interest (Book Club, Mommy ‘n Me, Sister Mixers) with the intention of having this group create a bond with one another as well as the alumnae group. Interest Groups should have a chairman to be a liaison between the SIG and the alumnae chapter or association.

Help Welcome Iota's new House Director!

Please give a warm welcome to Diane Schumacher! Diane is a local, who came highly recommended by a few alumnae, has sorority experience and is a U of I grad! She received her undergraduate degree in art education and a master’s degree in interior design. She has quickly stepped up to be Iota’s Interior designer and has been a delight to work with through this transition! I asked Diane to share a little about herself to help us get to know her…

Family: My oldest son and his wife live in Loveland, CO. My daughter, her husband, and my 14 year-old granddaughter live in Madison, VA and my youngest son, his wife, and my 7 year-old granddaughter live in Bloomington, IL.

Work experience: Art instructor (K-12), free-lance interior designer, real estate agent and for 2 decades I worked at the U of I's Krannert Art Museum - first in the education department training docents and organizing special events and the annual spring fundraiser, later in charge of marketing and publications.

Interests: Spending time with family and friends, art (drawing and watercolor), playing my guitar (a recent interest) and bridge, reading, knitting and needlepoint

Diane is excited to welcome everyone home and to get to know Iota! Stop by the house to say hello when you return to campus!

Best Wishes Teresa Mendez!

On April 16th, Near 300 collegians, alumnae and family gathered to celebrate Iota's beloved House Director, Teresa Mendez's years of service.  Many thanks for making Iota a home from all your sisters for over 30 years!  We love you T!  You can remain in touch with her by facebook or email her at mendezteresa@hotmail.com.

Photograph Dedication Ceremony in Honor of Jill Pitts Knappenberger

On Wednesday, November 12 at 10:30am local alumnae and collegians gathered at the Iota Chapter house for a special dedication ceremony and luncheon.
Our very own alumnae sister, Jill Pitts Knappenberger, generously selected and purchased a framed photograph of the iconic sculpture "Alma Mater" and presented it as a gift to the Iota Chapter. Famed central Illinois photographer Larry Kanfer attended and installed his latest piece that captures the newly renovated sculpture and our dear colors of bronze, pink and blue. For decades to come, DG's will enjoy this lovely photograph hanging above the living room mantle to welcome all into our Iota home.
A special thank you to Larry Kanfer and our DG sister Jill as the picture becomes a part of our Chapter's history!
